Bike to Work Day, 2009 - Thurs. May 14
Live in SF and work in the south bay somewhere? Join SF2G for BTWD! We'll have a big group - probably 40-50 riders, and the pace will be very chill. If you've never ridden ~40 miles, we suggest you work up to it by doing a few 20+ mile rides and get some basic cycling equipment, such as cycling-specific (padded) shorts, a good helmet, and possibly clip-in pedals. More suggestions can be found on our ride prep page. You can do it! It's fun!
General resources
The plan is to ride the bayway route. There will be 2 options -- Long and Short. Details:
Long version (~42 miles)
- coffee drinkers: meet at Ritual Roasters at 6:05am, drink a triple espresso
- everyone: meet at 24th/mission bart, southwest corner, at 6:20
- rollout at 6:30 sharp
- 2.5-3 hours ride time (arrive in mountain view about 9:30-10)
- Lost? call Scott Crosby @ 619-917-5560
Shorter, totally flat version (~30 miles)
Alternative route: SFOway, ~30 miles (to Google).
Same route as the Bayway, we just BART to SFO, take the elevator to the ground floor, and start there; it cuts out about 12 miles and all the hills.
- meet at 24/mission bart at 6:20, take the 6:37 train
- 1.5-2 hours ride time
- <100 ft. vertical, aka, dead flat
- Lost? call Brett Lider @ 415-806-0587
There will be "energizer stations" along the way for refueling/water and moral support. And if you work at Google, there will be some cool free shwag.
Party! The Bike Commuter of the Year San Francisco County award winner will be awarded at the Bike Away From Work Party on Bike to Work Day, May 14, from 6-10pm at the Rickshaw Stop (155 Fell St, between Van Ness and Franklin). The party is free and open to the public. We encourage all nominees to celebrate biking the commute with us at the Bike Away From Work Party.
